Mother Goes Into Politics

I took a brisk walk to The Hub, the little pub where I’ve spent several Tacoma evenings watching televised basket ball games while sipping a glass of wine.* Tonight I had a split of champagne in honor of my mother’s passing. I stared at the Gonzaga team stomping all over some school I’d never heard of. Upstate? Something. But though I was watching basketball I was thinking of the year my mother ran for the office of “Greene County Auditor.” We teen-dems ( my high school, pro-Adlai Stevenson, rah rah, nerdy classmates and I) were all over it. We handed out campaign literature at various gatherings, knocked on doors and delivered well prepared speeches……..to be concluded.
